Support for socially disadvantaged children in Cologne-Meschenich
The project aims to create new opportunities for children living in the ‘Am Kölnberg’ high-rise complex in Cologne-Meschenich, regardless of their background or starting conditions. Many children and families in this community face daily challenges, including social disadvantages and limited access to education; the project directly addresses these issues. A central element is the educational coach, who serves as a trusted companion offering holistic support.
The coach guides children through the transition from nursery to primary school, provides learning support, and strengthens emotional and social skills. Regular ‘happiness lessons’ and group activities further enhance children’s resilience, self-awareness, and motivation.
Parents are engaged as active educational partners in a culturally sensitive manner. Parent-teacher conferences, needs assessments, as well as low-threshold services create transparency and orientation within the education system. By building bridges between families, schools, and youth welfare services, the project fosters collaboration and improves educational and social opportunities for children.
