Making democracy tangible through young multipliers
The aim of the “Democracy Ambassadors” project is to give young people across Germany access to respectful, open and non-partisan discussion – regardless of their background, educational pathway or place of residence. The programme is specifically aimed at young people aged 16 to 27 who have so far had little access to civic education. During a three-month training phase, they acquire practical skills in communication, facilitation, media literacy and dealing with controversial opinions. A kick-off weekend and intensive in-person training sessions strengthen their sense of community and self-efficacy.
Afterwards, the democracy ambassadors put what they have learned into practice in their regions. They act as local multipliers and thus make an important contribution to strengthening democratic culture and social cohesion. The programme promotes equal opportunities and self-efficacy, supports a respectful culture of debate and reinforces social participation. Young people experience that their voices matter and bring democratic action into their schools and communities, helping to shape a diverse, open and solidarity-based society.
