Education and social participation for (newly) migrated children and young people

With the project “Nordstadt Creates Future – Empowering Children Through Education and Engagement”, GrünBau gGmbH supports children and young people from Southeast Europe with a Sinti and Roma background in Dortmund’s Nordstadt. The aim is to reduce social disadvantages, strengthen school competences and open up new prospects for social participation. The focus is on low-threshold, real-life education opportunities tailored to the individual needs of the target group.

The project comprises two core modules: In the “Train your Brain!” module, play-based and leisure-educational methods are combined with learning support, language development and health education. In this way, participants are not only strengthened in their education, but also gain new self-confidence and joy in learning. In the “Our Streets” module, the participating children and young people explore their neighbourhood, test themselves in public spaces and actively help to shape them. Their own projects, activities at local district festivals and involvement in the major Roma cultural festival Djelem Djelem promote engagement, identity development and positive coexistence in the neighbourhood.
