Educational equality through free, extracurricular learning opportunities
The RWE Foundation Education Voucher, in collaboration with Junior Uni Essen, gives children and young people from socio-economically disadvantaged families access to high-quality, free education outside of regular school hours. The aim is to promote talent, spark curiosity and contribute to greater equality of opportunity in the long term.
The project is based on two pillars:
Firstly, practical educational formats are offered at primary and secondary schools in deprived areas, particularly in the fields of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), art, and culture. The programmes are developed in close cooperation with schools and local institutions. They are also specifically aimed at public full-day schools to provide qualified educational opportunities in the afternoons.
Secondly, selected pupils receive the RWE Foundation Education Voucher, enabling them to participate in the Junior University Essen programmes free of charge.
The project helps increase motivation, social participation, and individual potential development. Close cooperation with schools, the city of Essen, and youth welfare services ensures sustainable, structurally anchored educational support.
