Integration and equal opportunities through strong family support
With the project “District Mothers in Action,” Stadtmission Nürnberg e.V. helps newly arrived families find their way in Nuremberg and enables their participation in society. Volunteer neighborhood mothers with their own migration experience support families in their native language, assist with everyday questions and administrative appointments, and facilitate access to educational, counselling, and leisure activities.
Before starting, the neighborhood mothers receive training in topics such as family life, social systems, integration, children’s rights, health, and conflict resolution. Afterwards, they support families for six to nine months through weekly home visits and telephone assistance. This strengthens parents, reduces reservations towards institutions, and helps children integrate better into care, clubs, and cultural activities. The goal is to provide help for self-help: after completing the programme, families should be able to navigate Nuremberg more independently and utilise available support services.
