Support for socially disadvantaged children in Bath & North East Somerset
The project aims to provide children and young people in Bath and neighbouring regions who face social and family challenges with additional learning opportunities and brighter prospects for the future. Many of these children experience disadvantages, emotional stress, and limited access to stable, supportive relationships – challenges the project directly addresses. The central focus is therefore on one-to-one mentoring, where trained adult volunteers serve as consistent mentors. They offer individual time and attention, facilitate meaningful conversations, and organise positive activities, directly strengthening children’s self-confidence, resilience, and social participation.
Another key aspect of the project is peer mentoring at local schools. Older students take on responsibility by supporting younger peers through challenging phases, helping to develop social skills and creating a stronger school community. The parents and families of the children and young people are also actively involved in the project to reinforce existing resources and expand the children’s support network to provide the best possible support.
By connecting schools, families, and communities, the project ensures that children in difficult life situations are seen and supported in their development. The project builds supportive structures that give every child security, a voice, and improved opportunities for education and participation.
