Improving the start of school through the magic of reading
The aim of the project is to strengthen children in their final year of nursery and in grade 1 through playful language and reading support. The aim is to identify and compensate for educational disadvantages at an early stage so that all children, regardless of their background or family language, can enjoy a successful start to their education.
“LeseFunken” is aimed at children from four cooperating primary schools in Duisburg and neighbouring nurseries, especially those from socio-economically disadvantaged families.
The aim is to promote language acquisition by motivating children to read. The content is based on dialogic reading, language and movement games, role-playing and dramatic play. This is because the combination of language and movement is particularly effective for expanding vocabulary and improving text comprehension.
The programme is supplemented by practical offers for parents to raise their awareness of reading promotion in everyday life and strengthen their involvement in education.
